Cross St Music Festival was established in 2018 in response to small venues dwindling and closing in Tāmaki, a chance to bring what we enjoy in our urban clubs into a larger platform to showcase the ever-presence of raw talent we have in our own backyard.
Cross St was a perfect backdrop in being historically home to the eclectic and diverse natures. An area rich in stories of debauchery, the redlight district and raucous house parties of notorious musical gatherings. We aspire to set this energy alight with a 100% NZ showcase that is humbling as a laneway block party.
Cross Street Music Festival now holds a special place in our Karangahape Road community's heart. It’s significance has grown far beyond entertainment. This annual event not only showcases our immense local talent but also brings together artists and musicians from diverse backgrounds, enriching our cultural landscape. It is a coming together for our community to celebrate our shared love for the arts, bridge cultural gaps, fostering unity and a sense of belonging.
The lineups feature established acts alongside new emerging ones. The program is always adventurous and eclectic! The event nurtures budding artists and musicians, ensuring the continuity of our vibrant arts scene. In doing so, the festival plays a real role in shaping our community's cultural identity and future.
We recognise the area's origins and whakapapa /identity and historical placement, therefore Māori traditional knowledge is an integral part of all our planning and involvement with our surrounding communities and local iwi. It includes environmental stewardship and economic development, with the purpose of preserving and improving the quality of life of the Māori and the diverse community that calls Karangahape home.
